Unused plug-ins
There are a number of plug-ins I do not use- I've tried them a few times and... I don't use them
on the possibility I might someday- is there a "best method" for moving them somewhere else... so if I should ever decide I think I have a use for it I can just move back? I'm trying to streamline my drop-down boxes

Re: Unused plug-ins
It is ironic, I suppose, that there is a folder in Library>Application Support>digidesign called "Plug-ins(unused)" which is exactly what you want (as well as the title of this thread aka. the ironic part)
The "Plug-ins" folder is in the same place and you can just drag them from the that folder to the unused folder..

Re: Unused plug-ins
Thanks- I knew about that folder
irony aside I once used Digi's troubleshooting utitlity and it moved a number of plug-ins into the unused folder (some of which were digi bundled and others that were VST...) ... however when I moved those back I had to re-authorize the IK plugins that came with PT and rewrap the VST's- That's what I'd like to avoid ....if that's possible?

Re: Unused plug-ins
Not sure about the re-authorizations etc.. but maybe it was because the troubleshooting app moved them, and did something else in the background like deleting the preference files or similar.

Re: Unused plug-ins
Ya moving the plug-in (dpm) file alone normally doesn't erase any authorizations (Even with IK). Each plug-in manufacture is a bit different, but with any serial authorized plug-in, there is a file usually somewhere in the user preferences or library prefs folder that stores the authorization. IF that file gets corrupted or is missing then the plug-in will ask for auth again.
So, for example you created a new user account, you might find that Pro Tools will ask for authorization on some of your 3rd party plug-ins again because you're using a new user preferences folder than the one that the plug-in was originally authorized on.
