Default Vinyl records to digital

Hello,

A friend wants to put some music from a vinyl record he played on years ago into a short film he is making. What is the best way to bring the audio into protools? I will be helping him with the post production, but I don't have experience with this process.
Thank you in advance,
SoundMonk

well, you need a phonograph (record player) with a phono pre-amp (their signal is lower than a tape deck). they make ones with analog and one even with digital outs....and some with built-in pre-amps.

we bought one with a built in pre and a digital out. i also still have my old one from the 80's and a 90's pre, which i have used.

i'd suggest putting the word out in your town or check the local mastering houses -- they may have one.

this guy is in Helsinki : virtalahde-Analog Mastering from what i have read on the mastering boards, he knows his stuff. perhaps he can help or point you in the right direction.

you can also check lisiting in your area for services that do this....

The MBox 2 Pro features a grounded phono preamp input. Also, ART makes the USB Phono Plus for $90 USD which is a USB phono interface. I haven't used either of these so I can't speak to the quality, but I imagine that they would do the trick.

I can help you if you are in LA this week... I have a Technics SL-1200 running through a nice Acurus preamp into Pro Tools.
