Default 32 Bit to 64 Bit For Dummies

It's been a while since I built my last computer, I'm going to build a new machine right away. What do I need to know about going from 32 Bit to 64 Bit???

I'll be running Pro Tools LE-002 currently version 8 can upgrade to 10.
Can my current Pro Tools run on 64 Bit or just how does it work???
My plugins need to be upgraded, but I've had the headphones on making records and not paying attention.

I'm wanting an 8-core, I've got a new UAD2 card and BFD2 for starters, will be running Windows 7.

If someone could point me to a good link, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Russ

Really, you don't need to know anything about 32 and 64 bit, as long as you build/buy wisely. Assuming you will build, then a socket 2011 6 core intel i7 on an X79 motherboard is the killer foundation. 4 matching sticks of quad-channel RAM(16GB or 32GB if you can afford it), a beefy power supply(600 watts or better), a modest graphics card from nVidia(fanless for noise) and a good SSD system drive will be snappy as you can stand. Add a WD Caviar BLACK recording drive(or 2) and a 3rd drive for samples if you use a lot. Load it with Windows7 64 bit and tweak it right, and you'll be ready to rock now, AND you'll be "future-proof" for Pro Tools 11(which SHOULD be a 64 bit program). My logic in 64 bit Win7 is simply based on my experience when moving from XP(32 bit) (and that Windows 8 is not yet qualified). With not a single hardware change on my old i7 920 rig, XP Pro scored 320 on the Dverb test. Win7 64 bit scored 500 on the exact same machine

BTW, upgrading to PT10 should be good on all counts. Just be aware that, starting with 9, the driver is a separate install, and there are separate drivers for the rack version of 002/003, and the controller versions(so get the correct driver). Also, looking forward, PT11 will not support the 002(which doesn't mean it won't work....but does mean it may not).

Thanks Albee.

Gosh I didn't even know about SSD system drives WOWSA !!!
This is going to be great .. mmm I've always steered away from WD Drives, I guess they've gotten better??? I've been using an OTW Drive, to record on and Seagates for BU.

This is what I was looking for in another thread.
