PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
I have a Canopus ADVC 100. Avid lists this as a "supported video device" and the firewire bus recognizes it on my Macbook Pro. When I launch Pro Tools (V9.03) however, it fails to recognize the unit and proceeds to start up without a video hardware device.
Could I be missing a specific driver maybe? Canopus doesn't support the box anymore and Avid is impossible to get in contact with, especially about a 3rd party device. Has anyone experienced this and come up with a solution? help help help! Thank you in advance! |

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
PT doesnt recognize canopus as "video hardware device"
They concider AVID hardware and AJA to be..(fi MOJO) In your PT session, if you have a DV or h264 video you can Option/video out firewire or right click in video preview and click / video out fw YOUR VIDEO MUST HAVE EITHER DV OR H264 codecs TO DO THIS Hope this helps ... ps If you view on external monitor through th Canopus you need to /setup/video sync offset- and put "22" quarterframes |

Here's the link to that: http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=380575 Also, I'm aware of the DV file type limitation and also the option/video out firewire selection. This option however is unclickable in my session. Plus, I think the problem is happening before that because on first launch of Pro Tools, the start up window of the software (not a session) says "No video engine detected" or whatever the wording is. So I suspect Pro Tools itself just doesnt see it. I'm unaware of a specific driver for these two to communicate. I thought Pro Tools had one driver for all peripherals. Am I wrong? Is there a specific driver I need to use a Canopus with Pro Tools? Didnt think there was. Well Thanks for the comments and hopefully others have some input on this too. |

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
I've never had to download drivers using my Canopus ADVC 100 on Mac G5's and Macrpos and used it on PT 6, 7, & 9HD. You might want to try different firewire cables and also different firewire ports on you computer. Could be either a bad port or cable or both. Also is your Canopus ADVC 100 set up properly with the digital ins and outs, etc? Possibly it went bad, since the 100 series is 5+ years old now.

I would still try a combination of different fw cables and fw ports. Sometimes for not logical reason, it might work. I've had strange phenomena’s happen. Worth a try.

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
Do you know what codec is used in the video? If you open the movie with Quicktime and do a get info it will tell you. What extension does the movie have in its filename — .dv, .mov or .mpg?

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
It's alive!! I uninstalled and re-installed Pro Tools making sure to NOT install the Avid Video Engine. I can't be certain whether I had this installed in the first place or not, but knowing me, I was so excited to get V9 when it was released that I probably just installed every driver and every bit of the software that I could. A colleague of mine pointed out that if the Avid Video Engine is installed then Pro Tools will completely ignore all non Avid video peripherals, such as the Canopus ADVC 100. So I'm 99% sure that that was the problem here. I can test it by uninstalling and reinstalling the software WITH the Avid Video Engine and see how it works, but I've lost enough time as it is.
Thanks so much for all your tips and advice everyone! |

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
Hello AJG I am having the same issue. I got my ADVC100 from ebay and wanted to import video to show on my external monitor so that I can score music to video. I have a MAc G5, PT8.0.1, digi 003. And I did install the avid video enginee yet I'm not sure how to uninstall protools and reinstall. Any advise and do you mind sharing your step. I can be emailed at [email protected] thanks

Re: PLEASE HELP Canopus ADVC 100
Just to clarify, you are attempting to play video out of Pro Tools via firewire correct?
If you are experiencing the same issue as I was then hopefully the re-install will solve it. If you need to run the installer. It should be found by going here: Applications>Digidesign>Pro Tools>Pro Tools Utilities>Uninstall Pro Tools Run then then run the installer again being sure to uncheck the Avid video engine. Those were my exact steps. If it's the same problem then you should be all set. There are some other pitfalls of working with the Canopus but if you've checked everything else out then this will hopefully do it. Good luck! |
