Can the 002 work with a P3 850Mhz IBM T21 laptop?
XPPro
512MB RAM 30GB internal HD Pentium 3 850Mhz Can the 002 work at all with this system or I'm wasting my time? I would need at most 2 renverbs + 2 SampleTank channels at the same time. I need very low latency for live performance of my band. I guess stability would be a crucial factor too...

The 002 requires a firewire port, this Laptop does not have firewire port build in. unless you have a PCMCia firewire card, you can't use it to run the 002. Check the specs on the laptop before you make your purchase. Good luck

Re: Can the 002 work with a P3 850Mhz IBM T21 laptop?
You're right. I would have to buy a PCMCIA FireWire card. My guy at SweetWater told me that they had a lot of problems with such cards. The card itself is affordable, but I'm not sure if it'll handle the throughput.
But I am now looking at the economics of the 002 a little differently: option1 - digi 002: ------------------- $2000, but I can sell my 001 and get back say $500, so really $1,500. works on both my desktop studio machine and my laptop on the road option2: -------- Keep the 001, buy AmpliTube (which I really want) $300, buy the MBox $500, buy Renaissance Waves $300, Buy SampleTank LE $100: total: $1,200. So for an extra $300, I can have a 8 input digital mixer on the road, and everything else as before, plus 3 great plugins. I'm starting to think that if I found a buyer for my 001, I'd probably switch to the 002...

Re: Can the 002 work with a P3 850Mhz IBM T21 laptop?
That's a good way of looking at it, If, You can wait for the XP drivers for the Mbox and If on the road, all you will need is a stereo input. WHat I did when I need to record on the road is: I bought a docking station for my laptop which is an old Dell, and the docking station has two PCI slots in it, so I bought a AMI III card for $100 and put it in there, So now I have a 2 channel input recording solution, and If I need more I bring my Yamaha 01V digital mixer with me and add another stereo input. So there are options out there, just do what is best for your need. By the way I do have the IBM T21 as well, but I'm not sure IBM makes a docking station that allows you to add PCI cards to it. Do your research and purchase what is best for you. Good luck and happy recording.

I actually have a docking station for the T21, came for free with the laptop when I bought it. It has no PCI ports though, only 2 extra PCMCIA and USB.

Re: Can the 002 work with a P3 850Mhz IBM T21 laptop?
For what it's worth, I have a T20 that I use for work. There is no way I would use it for DAW type stuff. I say this because it can be stressed using Apps like MS Project or multitasking. I think heat removal is a problem with laptops and the soloution is to slow them down.
