Default Which input would you use for audio/Midi into 001/LE

Hi ya'll, I need your opinion on this subject. I have the 001/LE 5.3 on Xp, with Yamaha 01V with Adat card and a Mackie 24X8 analog mixer. Which one of the three would you use to input Audio into the 001, meaning which converter would give me the best result. I don't do live drums, just keyboards and vocals, at the very most, very rarely, 5 tracks at a time. Let me know what you guys think is the best way to go here.I don't know all the specs on the 01V and the mackie, ut I just want to use the one that gives me the best sound through the converters to record Audio. Thanks in advanced and happy recording ya'll

IMHO, I would use the O1V and go digital into the Digi001. The converters on the Digi001 are better.... again, just my professional opinion. The converters on the O1V are 20-bit, but you can still send 24-bit signal via lightpipe on the O1V. Remember that when it comes to bit-depth on converters, specs can be just specs in some cases... this is one of em Then again, you have this yourself.... try them both out and see which one you like because it really only matters what you like best.

you could just try it both ways and then a/b it. be your own judge.

Thank you guys, but Brad I'm a little confused, you said that the 01V is 20 bit but the Adat litepipe will send 24 bit into the 001, does that mean that i have to set my sessions at 20 bit in Le or 24 bit, or does it make a difference. WHat about plugging my Mics into the Mackie and go analog into the 001 for the synths,or even vocals because that's my synths are all routed. Should I change that and route my synths though the 01V instead. Thanks

it all boils down to this, do you want your 01v to do the digital conversion, or do you want your 001 to do it. so set it up 4 ways, go straight into the 001. go through the mackie and then into the back of the 001. go through the 01v and then digital to the 001. or go through the mackie and then the 01v digitally to the 001. that's your 4 options. the last one seems a little bit long, so i'd try the first 3. set up your session to 24 bit. the last 4 digits will just be converted to 0's. the trick will be to duplicate your performance on the keys each time you record so you'll get a true a/b check.
