The read me file that comes with the 5.3.1 upgrade
says that it is normal for the cpu meter to say 100%, when running PT. It dosent effect the performance of your computer. James

Well stukface I did not know that info, but the problem is that it does affect the performance because it happens only when I launch protools, and when it does, I get the 6042 error because the PCI bus is too busy to communicate with DAE, so there's not enough room left for the software to use the hardware, so I'm stuck Therefor I don't believe the statement that it does not affect the performance
Bastiaan, I did have USB enabled, the reason why I mentioned that I disabled them is because I was trying to find out which hardware was affecting my system, so i Disabled them one by one until there was nothing else left to disable, so I can isolate the problem, but that did not work for me. I contacted digi tecjh support, but all they keep telling me to do is try things I specifically told them that I tried already, so they were no help to me. I rely more on you guys for help than tech support, because you all have the different set ups out there, not them, the probably have 200 MACS and one PC in their lab. If no one can find an answer for the 6042, I'll just have to sell my 001 and go with MOTU firewire interface, since my motherboard has the fire build in. That's where I'm going soon, and I think that will be a wise decision, but I'll hang on for a little longer to see what happens with all the bugs that have to be worked out in XP. Thanks all for all your help

The 6042 error you are getting probaly has nothing to do with the cpu meter at full. When I use PT and push ctrl+alt+delete the cpu meter says 100%, but if I open the system usage window in PT it says 5% usage. According to the Digi read me file this is normal. I have know problem running 32 tracks plus aux tracks and plenty of plugins. Not sure why you are getting the 6042 error, but if you are talking about the cpu meter that pops up when you push ctrl+alt+delete I wouldnt worry about it. Use the system usage window in PT according to Digi thats the meter thats acurate. James

So now why is it that If I open a session and press play I get that error message. I mean I can't do anything with the software without getting the error DIGI tech support told me to open a blank session and just press play, I did that and I get the error every time, no matter what my settings are, and believe me, I tried all the settings in Protools, that's my big dillema.
