Default Could I do a direct swap with this for my internal iBook drive?

http://www.transintl.com/store/categor y.cfm?Category=784

I got the site address from Digi Support (can't remember who -think it was DigiTechSupt)

and I was wondering if I could just straight swap it for my 20Gig internal (which I'm sure is 4200rpm with a 2 Meg cache)
5400 with 16 meg cache is quite attractive at $189 seeing as they ship to Ireland.

Well, you could... but it's apparently so difficult to get to the hard drive in an iBook, that Apple, nor any of their authorized resellers/technicians will do it, unless it's a dead hard drive and it's under warranty. You could do it yourself, if you feel like *completely* dissassembling your iBook and voiding your warranty. I wouldn't.

Of course, that might have changed in the past couple months, but that's my understanding of it.

or you could buy it and put it in a firewire enclosure and use it externally. looks like a pretty awesome little drive...

They sell it in a firewire enclosure already.. for $100 extra... super compact from what I've heard. It's still cheaper at $289 than what I've been quote here for even large self powered (IE not powered from firewire buss) drives.
that with the upgrade to 640Meg RAM might be my next purchase!
