Default configure system I/O to monitor S/PDIF in on 192

Hello,

I'm having a hard time configuring this setup.

mac pro digital out --> coaxial converter box --> S/PDIF in

From what I understand, this will allow me to monitor non pro tools apps through my system. Right?

Can someone please tell me a step by step instruction for this to work?

Thank you, the help is appreciated.

I use the optical I/O's between Mac Pro and the Avid HD interface (encl) for everything non-PT.

Go to Setup > Hardware > digital format set to S/PDIF (encl) > digital input 1-2 S/PDIF (encl) > same with external sync.

Of course, you need to connect the cable(s) accordingly on the back of the interface.

DUC is not a great place to expect folks to reproduce entire documentation to do stuff. There should be nothing too hard here and you need to troubleshoot step by step if having problems. Take your time an post with what you have done/troubeshooted and you'll get specific help.

Many folks doing this will be using an Omni and it's mixer capability. You don't have that in a 192 so you need to monitor through Pro Tools.

Start with getting S/PDIF from another source (CD player? MP3 Player?) running to the 192 and playing in Pro Tools HD. Have you tried that?

Do you have a headphone DAC or similar to test the Mac TOSLINK output with? Especially with a mini-TOSLINK adaper or cable make sure that mini-TOSLINK end seats in all the way into the socket. Also if you can't get a TOSLINK signal check in the socket to make sure here is nothing stuck in there. Manufacturers put dumb "dust caps" on the end of these cables and they can end up stuck in these sockets.

Make sure the sample rate from the Mac matches the session sample rate.

Make sure the hardware setup page for the 192 IO is showing the S/PDIF input and you are selecting the right input track IO.

Try defaulting the IO.

Do you see that track meters move?

If you have an optical card in the 192 you can switch that to S/PDIF and avoid the use of an adapter (the chassis TOSLINK connections only support ADAT).

Still stuck. Provide more info including: what exact HD system? Pro Tools version? Screen shots of the 192 Hardware setup page, IO input/output/bus pages and Pro Tools Mix window showing the IO selectors.
