Exported Audio File Name Truncated
Hi there,
I'm using PT 12.8.3 HD and I've noticed that when I export audio files with a long name from a session, Pro Tools is truncating that file name. I'm not sure whether this is a new pref that I'm not aware of or something else but it seems to be a relatively recent issue. I did not experience this with PT 12.8.0. I've done a bit of reading on it and perhaps Pro Tools is confirming to an AES standard of file name length? Is anyone else experiencing this? I would love to know the reason behind it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light! |

Re: Exported Audio File Name Truncated
My understanding is that the file name length limits apply to the full path. Is it possible you're exporting into a folder that's further down the directory structure than usual? To a folder with a longer total path name?

Re: Exported Audio File Name Truncated
Since a few versions of PT I have noticed these issues where you go to export clips as files and PT truncates the name into little bundles of charachters that don't make much sense. Sometimes it will just be a few spaces missing, sometimes is will be truncated so heavily it is unrecognizible.
The answe above is right, PT seems to have a limit to the total limit of characeters of the full path on the volume including its name. So if your path is too long, as in the names of the folders where the files are being exported to are too long, or it is to deep, folder inside folder inside folder that exceed that number of charachters PT will truncate your name. For now the solution is to reduce the characters of the folders in your export path, or to export to a shallower location and then move the folder to the correct place. Currently running Ventura 13.5 with PT 2023.6, but I have seen this happen in other Macs and 2022 versions of PT. However, never had an issue with this way back in the older versions. |
