Also make sure you turn down the level Pot on the internal mic when judging the noise of an external TB... Once I get the talent comfortable in their phones on initial setup, I usually just let the producer direct from the external and I just drive, making sure I have turned down my internal mic.

If I need to chime in, I'll just make sure my level is turned up...

Thank you!!

I just assumed that switching to external, bypassed the internal...never considered that the internal level would matter at that point. Problem solved!

So I've done everything up to this point:

"
Your external mic ---> external pre amp in ---> external pre amp out --- external talkback mic input on the X Mon."

Now...

In protools- Where is the the talkback I/O- or is it set up in a different location?

You handle talkback in the Monitor section on the console. I've set talkback to Internal, and then Assign TB button on to Cue 1 in. You just set talkback to External, and it should work.

So I have everything set up as Chris prescribed for the external mic setup on the hardware side of the Xmon/D-Command. I also know the principle of setting up talkback via protools. I am just confused as to how to get the two to work with each other. Can anyone help? Is the talkback located in the I/O of protools?
