Apple Silicon is much better than Intel, but software is not yet ready. Monterey OS is a disaster, PT is not yet native, iLok is not yet native, plugins to follow.

All I can say from this brief testing is Apple Silicon is able to distribute plugin load more evenly than any other CPU platform before. Almost feels like DSP.

Yea, ProTools better do this right. They need to make this first iteration ROCK SOLID, without video problems or whitenoise blasts etc.......EVEN I will buy the macbook and PT2021 , but i refuse to buy things with cludges. Money is no object, I just refuse to buy unworkable ****.....

Its too bad they cant release workable stuff within some kind of useful window. Oh well, Im just gonna do exactly what I did last time. Find the best working version and LOCK IT DOWN......and use it PERFECTLY for another 10 years until they finally fix the clip bins...IM 58 I dont give a fk anymore....

I am trying to sort this all out, but I am finding so many different things everywhere! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

MacBook Pro M1 16GB Unified Memory
512GB Drive

Im looking at a LaCie 500GB 1GB/s SSD Thunderbolt3 drive as recommended for Pro Tools 2021.10 one or more drives for audio record/playback

Do I need two, one for playback and one for record or just one for each? 1GB/s enough for maximum performance? Is this LaCie fast enough? Its bus powered.

My Pro Tools 2021.10 shows a HD Driver download under my products. Are some HD Devices CoreAudio under bigSur 11.6 with the TB3 Chassis? Do I need the HD Driver or Pro Tools | Ultimate? Is there a HD Hardware I can use with Pro Tools 2021.10? I know that some HD Hardware come with HD Ultimate, but do I need Ultimate to use them? Can I use a HD Hardware with 2021.10 regular? Is it core audio under bigSur 11.6? Is 11.6.1 supported with Pro Tools 2021.10 or just 11.6? I know I am asking a lot of questions but I am finding so many different thing across the AVID website and Google and I am trying to make this short and sweet! Thanks!

Thanks much! Student here and loves AVID! Much love, happy holidays!
Humm not sure where you are getting this (Im looking at a LaCie 500GB 1GB/s SSD Thunderbolt3 drive as recommended for Pro Tools 2021.10 one or more drives for audio record/playback).
There is no (that I am aware of) Official Avid recommendation for using an external drive for PT 2021.10 ?

You would only want an external SSD drive in a couple of situations
#1 if you are likely to have so many sessions on file that you will use up more space than your 512 internal can hold
#2 If you have massive VI libraries that again are likely to need more space
#3 or as mentioned as a back up drive

As far as the actual functioning for recording or playback. The internal SSD is plenty fast enough for that.

As mentioned:
No you do not need HD drivers to run PT Ultimate,,,, UNLESS you are using Avid HD hardware
If you are using any other hardware then no you do not need to download HD drivers, as they drivers for Avid HD hardware, not pro tools Ultimate software
