Default Re: A7V266-E & Win XP.... Yes or no?

I'm runningan Asus A7V266-E... I had a 1800 on it, and now have a 2100. It works fine in both WIN ME and WIN XP.

The only thing I'd watch out for is the onboard Promise Controller. It's not as good as using a seperate (PCI card) Promise Controller, so I'd definitely suggest getting the seperate card instead of using the onboard controller.

Other than that, you should have no problems with WIN XP. BTW, good move in backing up with Ghost. If it doesn't work (for whatever reason), you can get back to your current setup in a matter of minutes. That was definitely a smart move!

Thanks Phil! What kind of performance do you get with the 2100? What did you get with the 1800?

Should I upgrade to a 2100? Would I see that much of a performance increase?

Thanks,

Mat

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Mat for the price go with the new XP2200+ or higher. This is the new core just released and is a better performer than the other XPs.

Default A7V266-E & Win XP.... Yes or no?

I am waiting to upgrade to Win XP and PT 5.3.1, and I am wondering what kind of sucess any of you have had with a similar combo. My board is an A7V266-E with a AMD 1600 XP. I just backed up 98 with Norton Ghost, but if there hasn't been too much success with this combo, I might just wait a little longer...

Thanks!

All of the A7V (133, 266 & 333) series Asus boards work very well with Protools.

Thanks Allen! I will look into the prices for the 2200 and up. I am in the process of deauthorizing my plugs and will install XP tonight. Wish me luck!!!

I'm using this setup and it works fine. The 2200's weren't out when I built mine. The 1800+ works for me but Allen's advice is always sound. I will likely upgrade to the 2200 in the not too distant future.

All these other guys have had great results with this board, but I have had nothing but trouble, I upped to xp and nothing works the way that it should. I'm not saying that isn't a good buy because everyone else seems to be ok, but no matter what I do it just dosn't work on mine.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hey Calvin,
Not sure if you tried this yet or not but it seems to be key for those having problems with this motherboard. Disable the onboard Promise controller and get a Promise ATA100 or ATA133 TX2 card. Hook your system drive to port A and Audio drive to Port B and CDRW, DVD etc. to the onboard IDE channels. Put your Promise card in slot 2. Put Digi in slot 4.
Also, make sure you have updated your bios version at www.asus.com for your specific processor. They have done a great job of keeping this board current.
My A7V266E is working great on WinXP Home.

Hope that helps you out bro.
Allen
