Re: a7v266-e
I forgot to add that the reason I can't disable the onboard audio is because I dual boot Win98SE/Win2k and the Digi001 has no drivers for Win2k so I need to use the onboard audio for that. Hopefully this will all change in a couple months when digi comes out with 2000/XP support.

Re: a7v266-e
Last night I switched my system drive from the regular IDE controller to the Promise IDE controller and the CPU usage dropped from 11% to 3.5%. That's better than I expected. It didn't make any performance difference in ProTools. I am still able to get 12 RenVerbs in the "Be There" demo. I'm sure it will help out in anything that involves the C: drive.
I also tried switching between PCI slot 2 and 4. There was no performance difference. I ended up leaving it in slot 4 since that slot does not share an IRQ with anything I feel it will be the safest bet. I disabled everything that I don't use in the bios to free up resources but I haven't bothered messing with memory timings or overclocking. I have clients coming saturday and I need the system to be as stable as possible. I'll tweak it out when I have this project wrapped up. There isn't anything much more embarrasing than having a computer crash while a client is looking over your shoulder! This system is absolutely amazing. Just for something different, I tried a different combination of plugins in the demo. I got the following: 5 RenVerb 10 Renaissance compressors 2 DVerbs I still had plenty of CPU to spare! I'm starting to understand why Digi hasn't bothered jumping on the "Powered Plugins" bandwagon. The rapid increase in CPU speeds will make them irrelevant. Has anybody else tried any other tests?

Re: a7v266-e
Congrats on the great setup. I'll keep that PC slot 4 in mind from now on. Great find. You should be set my friend.
Have fun recording and let us know how your session goes. Allen |

Re: a7v266-e
Hi,
Sounds like you're ready to rock. Good work. Everyone is testing all the time, aren't we? Problem is there's only one agreed upon standard in this group, which is dave_c. We all agree that it is completely bogus from a real world standpoint, but it's something that everyone can run, so it works. I've been workign with a number of the Waves plug-ins, just seeing how many I can run. They require a lot of CPU power, but provide some great results. I think that the 7.5% CPU you saved going to the Promise controller setup will eventually show up as more plug-ins, or more powerful plug ins, in your sessions. Have fun, Mark |
