Increasing my analogue inputs
Hi,
I have a digi001 and yes, it had to happen, I would like to have more than 8 inputs. Now, can I put in some second interface card that pro-tools will recognise thus increasing my inputs. Or, if not, can anyone suggest a cheap ( but not nasty ) a/d converter so I can use the digital inputs, if I have to go that way. Any help much appreciated. Rgds |

Re: Increasing my analogue inputs
Alesis A1-3 will give you 8 more analog ins and outs and connects thru the Digi 001 by way of its optical (ADAT) port.
I used it on a Digi 001, and now a 002. I have 16 i/os at my disposal, making life a lot easier come mix down time and outboard equipment. |

Re: Increasing my analogue inputs
I heard that Alesis unit at a buddies place, and I must say it does a nice job. whiel only line level i/o, if you have the mic pre's, it's a great addition.
Otherwise, "cheap ( but not nasty )" doesn't exsist. Spring the bucks for an Octapre if you need the mic pre's too, it sounds killer. Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Increasing my analogue inputs
Yeah the AI-3 is sweet. No bull, no coloring. Just clean audio in and out. But some outboard preamps and all will always make it sound better.
I have a great sounding rig, and it wasn't too expensive. I run everything through a mackie VLZ-1604 mixer. While these mixers do better in live situations, I think the preamps on them sound pretty damn good, despite the price. Really clean with a bit of warmth. But I don't look at my rig as 8 ins on the 001 and 8 on my AI-3. But instead, I have the inserts of each channel on my mixer running to all the inputs I have, so instead I have 16 available channels on my mixer, all just routed into ProTools. I don't even think about the seperate I/O for my system, because I made my I/O setup in the software to read the channel number on my mixer, and not analog 5 and optical 7, just channel 1, or 2, or 3, etc. Is works great. Plus, I have the option of 1/4" or XLR input right there on the mixer, giving me an type of input I need. And even better, I have low cuts on each channel. It's great. You'd be surprised, with a LITTLE EQ, and a LITTLE compression, you can get killer sounds that sound so damn expensive, no one would even know that you did it with a mixer for less than $1000! But one rule of thumb, you need good mics! Good Luck! - Andy |

Re: Increasing my analogue inputs
You can try a Frontier Design Tango24. This gives you 8 more inputs and 8 more outputs.
