Default Another bounce handler that can\'t keep up!!

Hello all,
I've run into some problems trying to BTD with 5.1 (I know - I'm not the only one) .... I keep getting the message "bounce handler can't keep up" - that's it, nothing about the conversion process. I know others with this problem were trying to convert during or after bounce to 16 bit ........ but this is just a straight bounce to 24 bit for import back into another session.

I've read the other posts about this problem & tried the solutions posted by Digi - increase DAE memory (I tried up to 100k), close all plug-in windows (none were open - I even closed the marker & transport windows) & increased DAE buffer (all the way to 8), and I'm bouncing to a 9GB partition of a Seagate 28GB drive dedicated to audio ......... all to no avail.

It always happens at the same point in the song, which makes me a bit suspicious of some type of file corruption, but I'd be real suprised if this was the case because the session has performed flawlessly so far. It has 22 tracks
and a healthy amount of plugs & edits ( I'm up against the limits of the CPU & had to AS some plugs ).

My system is a G4 500mhz Mac,Mac OS 9.1, 384mb RAM, Seagate ATA66 28GB drive (9GB partitions) , running PTLE.

Obviously I need to bounce!! Please help if possible.
TIA
Tony

An alternate to bouncing:
Create a Aux stereo track
Bus to it on Bus 1-2 or (any unused Bus pair)
Bus out (Bus 3-4) to a stereo track with same Bus as input and any unused output pair for monitoring.
Put this track in Record.
Put any output plug-ins on the aux track and roll.
This works even when Mr Handler can't keep up. Go figure.
Any comments about the wisdom (pros or cons) of this method are welcome.

It's pretty hard to go without BTD , y'know?

You might try bouncing to a different drive.
i.e. a drive without audio currently being used by the session.

Mark,

There are some folks (including myself) that believe it sounds better to bus over to two tracks and record the audio, as opposed to BTD. Sounds more open to my ears. If I need to convert a 48k/24 bit down to Red book for CD, I use Barbra Batch to convert. Yeah I know, it's a 2 step process, but I like the results

Here is another post on the board saying that if you use a lot of RTAS plugs you may have BTD issues with 5.1.

I've been bouncing to another disk, as support suggested, even the system disk works.

Somebody at Digi knows this is their fault & won't admit it. I get this message constantly on simple commercials I'm bouncing to MP3s. I just try again & it works. Very damn irritating, however.

I had this problem a while back. Closing the plug window(s) seemed to clear the problem up. I haven't thought about it for a while. Perhaps the latest release of Pro Tools addressed it because I haven't paid attention to the amount of open plugin windows for a while.

Good luck,
John
