Default 17\" Powerbook upgrade?

Is more RAM and/or a faster internal hard drive the only "upgrade" to my
17' PB 1.33MHz 1G RAM?
I've read other DUC posters saying a faster system Hard Drive makes a
difference. I've got the stock 80 Gig drive which I think is 4200 RPM.
I can get an 80 Gig 5400 rpm $229.99 or a 60 Gig 7200 rpm $225.99

Your internal HD should only store the actual program. You should create your sessions and run them from an external drive, FW/7200RPM is best. Also use the FW drive to store your audio, samples, audio sessions from various programs, etc. I've been doing it this way for 2 years and it works great. I can also recommend LaCie D2 drives, rock-solid.

I use an external 7200 rpm FW drive for sessions. I'm asking about
the internal system drive.
Thanks

My 1.25ghz Powerbook also has the 80G/4200rpm drive and I haven't had a performance problem in almost a year since I've owned it.

You could get an external system drive and run that off of the FW800 bus, and run your 002 and audio drive off of the FW400 bus. I personally haven't tried it, but in theory it seems like it would give a slight performance boost as the 4200 RPM system drive could slow things up some.
