Default Recording 2 Guitars

I have a Fast Track Pro using Pro Tools M-Powered. Since the box has 2 Inputs (1 guitar, 1 Mic), could I just use the second input for a guitar instead?

I'd like to record with one of my buddies without it sounding like one guitar takes over the other when played at the same time. I want two separate tracks with two separate RTAS plugins running.

Thanks!
