Default Life is better with 001? .... not yet!!

So here is my problem

I have just bought a secondhand 001 which is ace, IF I could get it to work!!

Everything loads in fine, the drivers, ptle etc.. then when launching the program I get the message ‘Unable to create a DAE deck’ and you click ‘ok’ and the program shuts down. At which point the air in room becomes very blue as I explode in a fit of rage.

A friend came round to help and told me I needed a new motherboard that had a pure Intel chipset. Fare enough (mine is sis). But is this really what is causing the problem? I have PTFREE and that runs just fine.

I have been looking at the Abit BE7G Motherboard, anyone use this one? Can anyone recommend a good one?

You will have to forgive me as I am new to computer recording.

Thanks,

Paul.

My system
Gigabyte GA-8SIMLH Motherboard
266 DDR
WD 80 Gig HD
Intel Celeron 1.7
Windows 98

Paul, PTLE has problems with the SIS chipsets. Go to Digidesigns web site and read all the compatibility documents in the support section. They are loaded with all the info you need. Also, go to the "Best System" thread at the top of this forum. Tons of great info there. Good Luck

Just in case you haven't done this, I think you're supposed to uninstall PT Free before installing the real PT. If you haven't, I would do that, then reinstall PT.
I can't advise you on your mobo... -Roy

Some people have had great luck with the SIS chipsets. Roy is correct though you have to get rid of the old PT Free first and all associated files. May help to read the install instructions for PTLE to see if there are any files that need to be removed after uninstalling PT Free.
If you get a new motherboard get the A7V333-X or read the "Best System" thread above.
Good luck,
