001's second life

I have a 001 that has been retired from an audio sweetening room. I know I can install it in a windows machine. Am I able to use the 001 as a supercharged audio card? What I mean is I have a computer that needs a good sound card, but won't do any editing. So, if the user opened up a Quicktime video stream, would the audio come out of the 001 like it now does on a cheap, noisy built-in sound card?

If it's sound you're looking for, don't waste a 001 on just that... Heck, I'd trade a good sound card to you for your Digi001...

The wavedriver for the OO1 is more trouble than it is worth.
Your PC will never recognize the OO1 as a generic sound card.
Sell the OO1 on ebay and get a real card or box that can record as well.

If you have some ASIO applications, however, the OO1 is a perfect fit.

The Digidesign WaveDriver 6.1.1 is a two-channel, multimedia sound driver that allows third-party audio applications to play back through channels 1-2 of any Pro Tools LE system on Windows XP.

The Digidesign WaveDriver is not required to use Pro Tools LE, so it is not installed by the Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 updater.

Note: Owners of Pro Tools TDM or LE software version 6.4, 6.7 or 6.9 can install the correct version of WaveDriver for their system as an option during Pro Tools installation, using the box in the installer dialogue that is already checked by default. If you have Pro Tools 6.4 or higher software, you should NOT install WaveDriver 6.1.1. You may still want to download the Digi MME Helper on the page below.

Compatibility

The Digidesign WaveDriver 6.1.1 can be used on Digidesign-qualified Windows XP systems with Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 installed, or it can be used as a stand-alone driver on systems that do not have Pro Tools installed.

If Pro Tools is installed, Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 is required. This version will not work with Pro Tools LE 6.1 or older installed.

The Digidesign WaveDriver v6.1.1 can also be installed as standalone if no version of Pro Tools is installed.

Note: The Digidesign WaveDriver does not support Avid Xpress DV or certain other DirectSound applications that require advanced DirectSound capabilities.
