Default Bizarre MIDI behavior - Ultimate 2018.4

Ultimate 2018.4 - Windows 10 - latest updates on everything - system specs in my signature - Akai MPK249 controller but I don't think that's the problem.

Very strange behavior - instrument tracks will suddenly drop the MIDI input after functioning normally. Once it's gone the only way to get it back that I've found is to restart. I thought it was a global MIDI problem until I opened up a MIDI track right next to a malfunctioning instrument track and the MIDI track sees the incoming MIDI signal just fine (the inputs of both tracks are the same - "All" is selected). Also other maps see MIDI just fine as well so it's apparently isolated to instrument tracks in Pro Tools.

Anyone else seeing this? Know a fix?

Thanks!

Yes, I've seen this for 2 years running. Never have been able to solve it.

Thanks for responding. I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. I'm very familiar with instrument tracks losing their inputs when a session is first opened but this is different, I'm losing the input after working with the track without ever closing the session.

For what it's worth, I just had an instrument track lose it's input and opened a MIDI track to send MIDI to the instrument in the malfunctioning instrument track. Doing this "revived" the instrument track and I've been working as normal ever since. I'm sure this won't last but it might be a quicker workaround.
