Re: Pre recommendation for HD IO or Symphony I/O
Thank you for clarifying that. I just assumed they only had one card the whole time. I also didn't know that the 828 was released later than the 428.
Related to all this, in thinking about the $500 cost of getting the ISA card, it seems like it would be better just to spend a little more and get the HD 16x16 instead of the 8x8. Buying the ISA card is already half of what someone would spend for the difference. |

Re: Pre recommendation for HD IO or Symphony I/O
Saturday I'll be in a session with the Neve Portico 5024 .... super stoked to use it!!
I'll also be using a Tubetech MP 1A - man that thing is killer, but I'm excited to see how this neve sounds on drums and vocals I can report back on the 5024

Re: Pre recommendation for HD IO or Symphony I/O
Nst7,
I looked at the 16x16 option, the problem there is that while it gives an additional 8 inputs, they are without pres. I needed at least 2ch of good pres to start and had to factor that into the budget. I went with the HDN Thunderbolt, HD IO 8x8x8, 2ch Slate Pro Audio Fox QuadTone (to get both the Neve and clean pres), and the Dangerous Music D-Box. Got everything setup minus the pre, which Fedex is supposed to deliver today. For now I'll use my cheap 8ch pre via optical adat. Eventually I'll be looking at the ISA828 or the UA 4-710d. |

Re: Pre recommendation for HD IO or Symphony I/O
Hi JFreak and nst7,
Looked into this quite a bit for you! Originally we made the ISA 428 Pre Pack, found here: http://global.focusrite.com/download...SA428+Pre+Pack This unit had it's own ISA 428 card, which as you said had two DB9 plugs. Then we came out with the ISA 828 and a new card for it, which is the current card we make. http://global.focusrite.com/downloads?product=ISA+828 http://global.focusrite.com/download...+8-channel+ADC After this we replaced the ISA 428 with the current ISA 428 MkII, which uses the new card. http://global.focusrite.com/download...t=ISA+428+MkII The new card is backwards compatible and can be fitted to an original ISA 428 Pre Pack. The old card is not forwards compatible and cannot be fitted to an ISA 828 or ISA 428 MkII. The two cards have comparable specs and ADCs. If you were out to purchase a new ISA 428 MkII your only option would be the current card. Please let me know if I can help you further. Best regards.
