Default Noise gate plug in

Hey am looking for some advice. Have a kick drum that is picking up a bit of the snare etc from the rest of the kick. Think i need to use the noise gate plug in but all i seem to get when using it is to deaden the kick itself and the unwanted parts of the kick are still there. Any advice on what setting i should be applying? Thanks
