2024.3.0 italics in display
Hi all - crazy problem here, but I just installed the 2024.3.0 update (Windows 11, running PT Ultimate), and now my channel names, send/insert slots, Preferences menu, etc. - all are now displayed using italics instead of the normal font.
Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks, MP |

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
Italic names normally mean inactive paths, but this is really affecting more than those names? Like prefs is super weird. If you create a new admin user and log into that account does that work different?

A new admin user for my Windows machine? Nothing else in my system seems affected by this, just Pro Tools

some ideas :
has it forgotten your Playback Engine & Hardware ? has your iLok Authorization gone unrecognized or acting strangely ? (run iLok License Manager) |

No, all settings and operation are fine. But even the popup dialogs, and the Dashboard, are in italics!
Really the craziest thing... |

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
I've had this happen once before not too long ago. Only Pro Tools and my Spectrasonics standalone apps/plug-ins appeared italicized. Windows and the rest of my programs & plug-ins appeared normal.
I was never able to pinpoint the cause but coincidentally I was in the process of changing back to a previous PT version after updating. I've never had this problem before when going between versions so don't want to point to that as the cause. When searching for answers, the only explanation was that a certain font in Windows got uninstalled or something. That didn't seem applicable because Windows was fine along with most everything else. Just PT, Trilian & Stylus RMX were italicized Maybe those particular programs were just more sensitive to whatever happened under the hood. I couldn't find a precise solution so resorted to a system restore to when things were in a normal state; then started over with my PT installation. Hope you can identify the specific problem rather than having to do that.

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
Based on take77's idea, you could look thru your system fonts list and see if any of them have a newer modification date than all the others. I know nothing about PCs, but on a mac this is easy to find.

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
Thanks all - no joy so far on any front - I just uninstalled and reinstalled Pro Tools, but the problem remains. Guess I'll try calling Support...

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
Spent a while online with Avid support yesterday, but they are as puzzled, so far, as I am. Apparently someone else has now logged a support ticket with the same issue, so I expect it'll get figured out. Will post here when it does.
Thanks all - MP |

Re: 2024.3.0 italics in display
When it happened on my Windows 10 system I couldn't figure it out either. After an hour or two I decided to just take the time to do a system restore.
To be clear, not a full Windows reset or image backup. Just a system restore to the date & time before it happened. I first tried the restore point just before changing PT versions. Oddly, that wasn't far back enough & I ended up setting the restore point to the day before when all was normal. That worked and the Spectrasonics Trilian standalone went back to normal. At that point, I reinstalled Pro Tools and it also went back to normal. You'd think the first restore point I chose would work so something definitely got altered in Windows system-wide during the nights events. FYI it was the last 2023 version of PT that I had installed/uninstalled before going back to 2022.7 when it happened. Whatever happened affected both Pro Tools & Spectrasonics. Can't recall if there was a Windows update the same date concurring with the event. The whole mix view in PT appeared in italics along with the Spectrasonics standalones & plug-ins. The rest of my plug-ins, apps & Windows 10 OS were unaffected.
