Yes, you can use VST's in PT LE, BUT you need to get the VST to RTAS Adapter from fXpansion. This will "wrap" the VST's and make them available in PT LE. It's well worth it, in my opinion

$75 to have it shipped from Sweetwater

or

$99 to Download it from FXPansion

Worth every penny.

There is no better way to spend $75 on a Protools system.

If you bought the MBOX2 with the expansion pack do you still need to pay the $75? And also...what is the process of installing the VST Plug-Ins? I'm glad to find out this info. This will be very cost-effective. Peace.

Yes. It is not included with any package deal.

You can install them to their default install location, or to the FXPansion VST Plugins directory, or wherever you want. The newest wrapper allows you to specify which folder(s) to scan and wrap, and a whole lot more.

You can read all about it on the FXPansion website.

I appreciate the help man. This is good news since I have a lot of VST Plug-Ins I used with Cubase and Sonar.

There is one thing you should note. Some VSTs will not work in the wrapper. I believe they are normally ones that come with a program like Cubase which are somehow only specified to work JUST for that program. I tested and moved all my VSTs from all my programs to one folder, used the wrapper and found this out. Most VSTs will work for sure. I'd say 90% of all VSTs... but the ones created solely for a specified program and nothing more may be a bit of a problem

fyi, sweetwater doesn't have the 2.0 version in stock yet... so right now, downloading for $99 is the only option.

it is beyond simple to use: put the vst .dll in the vstplugins folder, open the wrapper and click 'detect & wrap' and it goes through the vstplugins folder, wraps them and puts the wrapped version in the DAE/Plug-Ins folder. the next time you open Pro Tools, you'll see a wrapped plug-ins sub-menu in available RTAS inserts with VSTW "name of plugin".

if you can get Pro Tools to run, this is cake.

digidesign should strike a deal with FXPansion to include a version of this with their LE software. in other words, it's well worth it.

take care
