Default Solid Core doors - sources anyone

All,
I am in the market for 2 standard size doors for my basement to better isolate the room gaps. They need to be Solid Core too. I managed to luck out with my 3 foot door and got it for free when my company was remodelling their building. Right now I am looking for 2 doors that are solid, wood tone and not too rediculous in price.

Any ideas? besides the standard HOME DEPOT.

Thanks,

- Doc

Hey, doc,

Here in seattle there's something called the ReStore, they dismantle about to be destroyed homes and sell off the good parts. Kindof a U-Pick-Parts lot like for cars, but for homes. They have a lot (a loooooot) of interesting home parts, including a row of about 80-100 doors. I suggest asking home builders in your area if there's anything of this sort in your nech of the wuds.
Also, failing that, you may try going right to the source, calling construction/demolition companies if they have any projects coming up which might have doors left over. Likely you'll find something somewhere. Also try posting on Craigslist.org, you may even get them free in barter... hey, wait, you're in DC... Just offer to trade doors for illicit substances, and you'll have a dozen doors tomorrow!

drill a small hole in a standard door and fill it up with PUR foam? Is that an idea?

Dunno if PUR-foam is called PUR-foam in english. Its an abbreviation for PolyURethane i believe.

Doc, you might check out freecycle.org and post on the threads for your local area. I have come up with some gems for this sort of stuff from my local freecycle group. It is very cost efficient so to speak.... lol FREE! you can also consult with demolition companies or handyman kind of places and see if they are ripping anything out of anyones homes. Sometimes they will have a couple deals... I got some old office cubical stuff to use for amp baffles this way. *shrugs* goodluck man!

btw... Bastiaan: Do you know where you can get clear casting resin anywhere for less than $50 for a gallon by chance? I had an idea to make a floor in my future studio with clear casting resin and old music artifacts. can't find the stuff for cheap enough though... when you mentioned Polyurethane (sp?) that made me think about that though.

Try the Gamma or the Praxis.....

I think you forgot i am in the Netherlands...

Akzo Nobel or DuPont or BasF could also fabricate what you're looking for

(Praxis and Gamma are the Dutch home depot's)

BTW...that PUR stuff i was taling about is some kind of syntehtic material that creates a yellowish foam that is very hard and rigid, yet still a bit flexible. They love it to fill and seal stuff when building houses.

You buy it in a presurized spraycan.......

Doc-

I got my solid core doors from Carter Lumber. I don't know if they're local, regional, or what. I know there are several in the Detroit/Toledo area. That'd be my suggestion, a lumber and building supplies place, something other than Home Depot. Home Depot is sort of like the McDonalds of home improvement superstores. That said, I'm sure they could order them for you.
