Whats need for 5.1

I have a client thats willing to be a test subject for my first surround mix. I use PT5.1 with 888/24, Mackie 32-8 board, genelec 31,s and 37,s. Speakers I can get...
1. What extra hardware do I need?
2. What plugins do I need?
3. How should I connect speakers?
4. Is there a intro step by step guide somewhere?

Any help would be great.
