PT 2021.3 Hangs on opening old sessions with Multiple Videos

Experienced same here with PT 2021.3.1.

Opened a session given to me by a colleague on pt 2020.x. It had four normal H264 pix files in the video track.

Video engine was repeatedly restoring the video tracks for a very long time, then occasionally the video engine would crash. After about 10~15 minutes session would finally open, sometimes with a message about the video engine crashing due to codec issues (this was h264).

If I saved the session, I could open it again fine.

But if it went back to the colleague on pt 2020.x, and they saved it and sent back to me, I had to go through the video engine nightmare all over again!!

Made remote collaborating a disaster.

I appreciate the posts as this is obviously a significant issue for people, but several of these are starting to be cross posts of the same thing in separate threads. If would be more helpful to keep these in one thread so everyone that is interested (Including Avid) can find it in one place. Yes, that's right. The session went to someone else who opened it in an earlier version of Pro Tools. I think he's on something like 2020.5 — sounds like the exact same issue.

I haven't reported it, has anyone else?

I would but don't know how.

This is a massive blow to us, either working collaboratively/remotely or just having to go back into older sessions.

Rolled back to 2020.12. A MIDI keyboard isn't worth any of this headache or wasted time/money.

I'm back on 2020.12 since the Import Audio dialogue is broken. I haven't even tried opening a session with video - life is too short!

Hopefully the word URGENT got Avid's attention but we'll see about that... Unfortunately the main people they listen to are their shareholders these days.
