Default Looking to buy a laptop that will operate Pro tools 8 but..

I am looking to buy a laptop that will operate pro tools 8 but I am on a $500.00 budget. I just record Rap vocals over instrumentals and well I start school at the Media Tech Institute next month and I really need a laptop because I already have a desktop that I have come to find out Pro tools will not run on so if anyone has any recomendations please let me know??

You wont get a lot for 500.00... That being said a Intel core 2 duo will work. make sure you have a 1394/firewire port on the laptop so you can hook up a firewire drive to it.You will need at least 2gigs of ram to do anything at all with the latest version of PT. Any new laptop should have at least 3gigs for a 32 bit system and 4gigs for a 64bit system. Again 500.00 won't give you hardly any choices at all unless you come across some really good "blowout" deals.

I'm running a Compaq presario CQ60 upgraded the ram to 3gigs. Its dual core and I think at best buy the newer version is around 350 - 400 I don't know what version of PT you want to install but I just got a PRO Tools recording studio from M-Audio. Comes with PT M-Powered Essential and a M-Audio Fast Track USB interface. Its got a XLR for vocals. I installed it on my lap top no problem. Had to tweak it a bit to get it to work but it does. I'm running Windows 7 home Premium. For 5 bills sounds like its really tough to get a Apple laptop

You can always look for a used Macbook... That will be a lot closer to your $500 price tag and should work with virtually no compatibility issues with PT (as digidesign has qualified all dual-core intel-based Macbooks/pros for use).

One thing you really need to check before buying anything...what platform does your school require (if any)...mac or windows...

Hi Nlea7, I'm looking into a new laptop now and I'd love to know what processor you have in your compaq..?

Cheers!
