Tascam us2400 problem with PT7.1

Hi just to say thanks to anyone who reads this and may be able to help me, I'm having a problem with the us2400 with M Powered 7.1 on pc XP SP2 setup. The us has been updated to firmware 1.31

Initially for the first 2 uses of the desk it worked I was able to control levels and all automation/fader movement worked. However, I do think PT was a bit slower than normal on a big session that would normally run fine without the us2400 connected.

However, now PT is unusable when all faders are active (i.e. selecting 3 HUI banks under the peripherals setup). The us2400 is definitely in HUI mode. As soon as PT loads up it is extremely slow, the menus take forever to register the mouse is hovering over them, when I do eventually load up a session PT pretty much grinds to a halt, the us2400 will very slowly register the fader settings and they will move to the correct position, then the LED rings will blink off from left to right and turn on again, PT often comes up with:

"Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Please power cycle HUI and check its connections."

Digidesign say - This can occur if Run MIDI in Background is unchecked in the OMS MIDI Setup program (found under the Setups Menu in Pro Tools).

...but I have looked in the setup menu and peripherals menu for that OMS midi setup and cannot find it. also PT's often crashes and I have to 'end task' it.

When I set only one HUI controller as active in the peripherals menu I can control a basic session with the 8 faders but it is still slow.

I have also tried the us2400 with cubase sx3 on the same PC and it works fine so I presume that the unit works. I have also uninstalled the 'usb audio device' driver in windows, disconnected the us2400 and loaded up again but that didn't work.


Any ideas?
