Default Problem with AAF import in ProTools 6.2.2

I have received an embedded AAF file created on Avid, but when I try to import it into ProTools ("Import Session Data"), I get this error: "Cannot open the selected file because AAF files containing embedded audio media are not supported."

The AAF file has only audio. - What is wrong here, and what should be done on the Avid machine to make it work?

Grateful for any advice

Helge K.

On the Avid side, the user can choose to embed the audio/video media in the AAF, or to simply link (refer) to the media from the AAF file. ProTools only supports the latter option. The easiest export option from Avid's line of products is to use the "Copy and Link to Copied Media" export option when exporting a sequence from Avid's editors. The Avid user should then send you the entire folder created by this option, including the AAF sequence, audio media, and video media (if applicable).

So even with AAF format, Pro Tools and Avid aren't truly compatable! Are they ever going to work together smoothly?

I tried this, but Avid will place all the audio (when conforming the audio) in the same directory (folder) as all other files that belong to the Avid projects on the PC. - What should be done in Avid to avoid this? Of course, if it was possible to create a new folder and set the exported files to be placed here, it would be easy to export the folder to a different drive with the AAF file. - So, is it possible, or do Avid and ProTools need to share the drive?

Has anyone succesfully used AAF with AVID and digi? What about the new adrenalin Avids and their 24bit/96k support how will that interface with PT? does 24bit OMF work from those machines to PT?

Frank.

Does anyone (Digi guys included) have an idea or guess as to when both import
& export of embedded and linked AAF files will be supported within Protools/DigiTranslator?

Thanks
