Why would you need the RME or MOTU card for Logic? Logic acceses the I/O of the 002 just fine. Since you will be using the 002r then you might as well use the "monitor level" volume control instead of "Big Knob".

hi funkdefino

how about the outputs that i need for surround?
i'm using output 3/4 for headphones
how do i change from Stereo to Surround
this is why i mentioned the Big Knob and the MOTU

if there's a way to get this best of both worlds system with only the 002R then that's awesome

i just want to know all the options before commiting and buying any equipment

remember that all of this is going to be used for DVDAuthoring most of the times.

this is getting too complicated
hopefully i'll get the info i need

thanks,
CJ

Why are you using 3 and 4 for headphones? The Digi002r has a headphone mix right on the front of the unit. If you are running this to your Command|8 for headphone monitoring then you are set up wrong IMHO. You should be using your "Main Outputs" or you’re "Monitor Outputs" to your Command|8.

Surround can be set up by using outputs 1 thru 6.

1. Front Left
2. Front Right
3. Rear Left
4. Rear Right
5. Center
6. Sub

This still leaves 2 analog outputs for a separate stereo mix too another headphone mix device. I don't see a need for it based on what you have told me, but you may be leaving something out. Either way they are there and can be used.

I realize that RME and MOTU are awesome cards but for your purposes I don't see any advantage in getting them. The 002r is a great sound card and is easily as good and in some cases better than both of those product lines. So if it is sonic quality or lower latency you’re not going to get a marked improvement over what you have. If your only reason is more outputs then you are making a mistake. You have plenty and can easily make it happen with what you have got.

Also...

The Bose system is definitely not a good choice for surround monitoring. Yes, they are a nice (inexpensive) home theatre product, but they are not suited for referencing pro audio.

With all the money you are saving by not buying another sound card and a Big Knob maybe you should think about investing in some quality monitors.

If you are on a budget check out the KRK RP-8's and RP-10S Sub woofer. For the money they are a bargain and are definetly up to the challenge of suround mixing.

Good Luck!

hey Funk

thanks for taking the time and helping
here's what i have in mind.....

i might return the C8 since it will not help me for the surround mix, right?
i already have a BlueSky 2.1 System One
i just need to add 3 more monitors and i'm set

i just did the 3/4 out for a headphone amp
so i could do a fast setup for a session
any other options?

can you please let me know how i should get all his wired? (signalflow)
and if i need any other hardware/software so i can get this best of both worlds setup?

i'll be interested to know how i could switch between stereo and surround (hardware/software)
and any other ideas/suggestions you might have.

i'll be doing mostly DVD Authoring/Video Editing/Post/
but i'll do some Tracking and Mixing as well.

let me know if i even need a C8 and
if you have any more questions about this setup

sorry for my ignorance
looking forward for your answer
regards,
CJ
