Upgrades Protools 10 to 12 on OSX El Capitan

Hello,
I have Protools 10 on my MacbookPro since 2010 and it is working well.
However I bought an IMac with El Capitan (10.11.2) and I can't install PT10 on it; I read that it will never work so I want to buy PT 12.
To do that I need to buy the Upgrades,(https://shop.avid.com/ccrz__ProductD...er=&store=shop)
but will I be able to install the Upgrade if I don't have already PT10 install?


I have another concern, If I buy the Upgrade will my PT10 still work on my macbookPro or will I have to install PT12 on my laptop too?

Yes, as long as you have the license on an iLok2 you can install and use PT12. There isn't an upgrade installer to PT12, only a full installer.

I believe if you upgrade from 10/11 to 12 your license bundle will be 10/11/12 post upgrade so you can still use PT10 by itself on the MBP.

Yep. Everything he said is true. I just upgraded too (to beat the Dec 30 deadline). I'm still running PT10 on my 2012 MacBook Pro (i7 Quad Core) with Mountain Lion for clients that bring me Protools sessions. My sandbox machine is an old 2010 MacBook Pro (C2C) but it is running El Capitan and Protools 12.4. If all goes well, I may finally upgrade my Protools system to the current OS and software.

Probably it has been covered all already. Just wanted to confirm it once again.

With the PT12 upgrade you will get a combi-license for PT12, PT11 and PT10
and you will find separate installers for all 3 versions in your Avid account finally.

Means, you will be able to just download, install and use the exact version of Pro
Tools on your system you will need.

You don´t have to install PT12 if you don´t need it. You can choose which version
of those 3 to use. Because the license on your iLok 2 will be a combi-license for all
3 it will authorize all 3 versions of PT, no matter which you decide to use finally.

You even don´t have to deinstall your current PT10, you just can leave it how it is.
Just exchange your single PT10 license with the combi-license for 12, 11 and 10 on
your iLok and you will be good to go.

Well, important - you need an iLok 2 for the new combi-license, the blue iLok 1 will
not work! If you still have the blue iLok 1 you need to buy the iLok 2 to house the new
license.

This will be your upgrade from a french branch of the largest music store in Europe
which you can contact per phone to help you through the upgrade procedure if needed
(can´t do that via the Avid store).
