Default Neve 1073 - your thoughts

Hey guys what are you all consider the main weakness of the 1073 mic pre-EQ combo?

I find that there's not enough EQ bands for me to sculpt the sounds the way I want it

For you guys what is it?

Yeah besides the price that's probably number two on the list.
obviously I'm dealing with non-hardware just software emulations the UAD

but there's only two bands that can really be active at the same time that coupled with a low pass filter

the real power of the vintage Neve Pre/EQ modules is the mic pre, the EQ is kind of a bonus
the EQ is not a "fix it" EQ

I know, it's just a little bump eq. I got used to high shelf, low cut and boosting mid bands and cutting some low/mid bands.

Maybe I am expecting too much - but I started to use the UAD plug and right away I noticed the limitation.

1081 is Class A/B, 1073 is all Class A electronics. They simply sound different.

Befor I bought the BAE 1073 DMP I also tested the full BAE 1073 with the EQ. However I didn't think the eq combo was worth twice the price DMP. I can get similar non destructive results with plugins. I do wish the DMP had a hpf though. It's handy agains low end rumbling.

Yes but then he'd have more control on the eq as he wants.

Yes, he would. A different sounding EQ. Depends on the goal of course.
