Hi everyone,
just wanted to know what mic everyone is using to record acoustic guitar. I,ve been using the Rode NT2 and am looking to buy something else to use with it for stereo micing,
thanks,
Tim.

Hi there... I used to use my audio-technica 4050 but I bought a pair of shure SM-81's and they sound sweet. I actually like them better for acoustic than the audio-technica. They run for about $300 each. And also they are great for overheads when micing drums. If you what you wanna do is stereo recording I recommend buy a pair of the same mic, like 2 SM81's, or 2 AKG C1000's, etc that way you get a true stereo image, and not different kinds of sound quality from been diferent mics. Good luck.

what?
just plug it in!.........just kiddin'
AKG C1000's are great versitile 'Swiss Army mics'. AKG 440's (I believe that's the right model #) are excellent mics, I use those all the time and never get a bad sound.

Experiment and have fun.

I too started with an NT2 and wanted another mic for stereo. I went with a Nuemann TLM 103. While it is true that the mics sound different, I just used the two as drum overs over the weekend. (mmph?) Close enough for my home studio. The drums rock, at least to my ears. The 103 is amazing on an acoustic guitar by the way...

The AKG 451 with CK1 or the Sheops CMC5U sounds really nice on acoustic guitar.

A/T 4041s - I've chosen them over my 414 at times.

Tim
Do yourself a BIG favour and check out the Rode NT3. It retails for $385 Aus you should be able to get it for $320 Aus. Believe me you won't look back.
I'm in Sydney, email me.
Regards Nick from Aussie.

i recently purchased 2 akg-414's with the ck-12 capsule from a estate sale at a really reasonable price - this is when the 414's sounded much smoother & sweeter - & they definitely are! They are excellent on acoustic guitar - also great for vocals. I think there is 2 more left if anyone is interested - somewhere around 2200 for both (if they're still there!).
In the past I've used 2 AT4033's as a stereo pair - with good results, also think the pre's your using have alot to say in the matter.
