Cool PT LE 9.01 Crashes with Mac OS X 10.6.6

Hi,

I still have an issue where PT crashes a few seconds into opening a session. It doesn't seem to matter that I am in playback or doing nothing - PT still crashes out and I have to reboot to open it again. This is for lots of different sessions not just one. Also had DAE error and critical low memory errors before the crash - even though I have 8GB of memory...

Things tried already - none of which works...
  • Rolling back to Mac OS X 10.6.5
  • Rolling back to PT 9.0 and 8.x
  • Formatting the external disk where the session held and restoring
  • Copying sessions to internal HDD and other external HDD
  • Swapping around the firewire cables between Mac/HDD/Rack
  • Running Disk Utility on all volumes
  • Running the Tech Tool Deluxe app
Does anybody have any other ideas please.

Rgds and thanks in advance.

Gary

Current setup:
PT LE 9.01
Mac OS X 10.6.6
Mac Mini (top spec)
Firewire Rack 003
2 x Firewire 1TB External HDD

By the way, this issue also happens on Instrument tracks, so someone should update the topic.

I also tried installing Protools on my Macbook Pro but Protools crash after 10 minutes working with it.

AVID support told me that its a OSX related issue and I have to contact Apple.
I guess youve got to call Apple and tell them their software isnt working.

Thats the word on the street now apparently.

Cool Re: PT LE 9.01 Crashes with Mac OS X 10.6.6

Just to confirm - tried the following combinations...
  • PT LE 8.x (can't remember exact version) with Mac OS X 10.6.5 (used to work fine - now doesn't) and 10.6.6
  • PT LE 9.0 with both Mac OS X 10.6.5 and 10.6.6
  • PT LE 9.0.1 with both Mac OS X 10.6.5 and 10.6.6
Currently back on latest versions of both. so not sure how it can an Apple issue?

Rgds,
Gary

But he said he rolled back to 10.6.5 and 10.6.4. So this isn't an OS issue.

Did you install the latest 003 drivers BEFORE installing Protools?

Can you zip up the AvidLogFiles folder located at MacHD>Users>your account>Library>Logs and email it to me at: vi [at] digidesign [dot] com?

I don't see what version you were upgrading from. Do you have any incompatible plug-ins?

Yes I did - however, I understand the latest 9.01 patch on the Avid website includes this fix anyway now?

Now this is an interesting idea! I hope not - they all worked okay in the 8.x version of Pro Tools. Would be a pain to find out which one it was though - there loads....might have to be a last resort

Unhappy Re: PT LE 9.01 Crashes with Mac OS X 10.6.6

Thought I'd try creating a new blank session with no plug-ins.

Imported an mp3 track and played it.

Weirdly, I only got sound via the Aux In on the Rack 003!! Has anybody had that before? ie the output from the Mac rather than from the Rack 003?!? Very strange!

Then it crashes after 10 secs....

Rgds,
Gary
