Default RTAS vs AAX

When using PT10HD, is there any difference in using RTAS versions of plugs versus AAX? Any advantage? I'm not sure we want to hunt down AAX version plug-ins of our RTAS.

When it comes to DSP / TDM plug-ins, do we need to upgrade to AAX versions?

Thanks.

Unless the developer made changes when upgrading RTAS plugs to AAX 32bit, there isn't much/any differences. I have seen some people saying AAX is more efficient but I haven't noticed.

As for TDM, PTHD 10 is the end of the line for them. So, you'll either be staying on 10 or "upgrading" to an HDX card which means you'll need AAX DSP versions of your TDM plugs if you want them to still be DSP based. Otherwise, it's all native.

We realize that TDM is dead on 11, but in 10 with TDM, do you have to have AAX version of the DSP plugs to run in 10HD, or are the version PT 8/9 DSP TDM plugs compatible in 10HD.

Thanks.

HDX cards are not compatible with TDM. HD and Accel cards are compatible within PT 10 but not 11

I know that as well, just trying to figure out if our existing plug-ins in PT8/9HD that are TDM, will work in PT10HD with our existing system which is an HD3.

Most should but you should check if there updates for 10 TDM, AAX DSP will not load onto the HD cards

Every single TDM plugin I have works fine in PT10HD.

I'm about to upgrade to PT 11 from PT 8. Is it possible to install every AAX version of my plug-ins before I install PT 11? I mean, will the AAX plugs work in PT 8? If so, and if I install them before PT 11, will I have to reinstall them when I install 11?

No, 8 can not use AAX
You will need to install afterwards
