Honestly is PT 11 worth it right now?
I am ready to make a big jump to a higher platform. I am currently using PT 10. I currently record at 48-24 bit. I want to experiment at much higher rates. I think PT 11 is a reset for PT and that must be the place to reinvest.
How is PT 11 doing? Is this new platform just picking up speed? Is 2014 going to be ground breaking for PT? I am interested in PT 11HD. I am currently using rack 003 and a Motu 8pre for inputs. Basic. I want and need to spend hard earned money on an input interface. What do you guys recommend? Im serious, Im looking for something good. 10k is my budget. Thank You |

we're still waiting on some players to port their plugins, but the list of available plugins grows almost daily. So it depends on what type of work you are doing.

Re: Honestly is PT 11 worth it right now?
It's just getting started -- vendors have to play catch-up now that the plug-in SDK was finalized (about the same time PT was flying out the door, seems like...I may be wrong).
It's worth the investment, IMHO, if you already have 10 b/c you get a 10 license and can run sessions between the two (though many 3rd party plugs in sessions will come up unavailable/disabled in PT11). If you expect it to be working 100% with what you can do in 10, right now, plugin-wise then you may want to wait. I think it's worth it to buy sometime between now and the end of the year as plugin manufacturers should get AAX64 out the door and into some .1x build updates after that. YMMV

I've got time for software. if that is the question. What do you recommend for analog to digital input converters. I feel I need to tackle this soon. 8k is my budget

Re: Honestly is PT 11 worth it right now?
Probably won't cost any more in 6 months or a year.
Given the issues/limitations right now I 've got better ways to spend my time. I have plugin/routing setups I've been using for years, I'm not got to ditch that to use something that didn't exist 3 months ago right now.

Re: Honestly is PT 11 worth it right now?
You mention that you want to experiment with higher sample rates. Keep in mind that your current PT10 already allows you to do that. You just can't do it with your 003 because of the hardware limitation.
In fact, getting an outboard converter won't change that, because the 003's limitation applies to the digital ins as well. So you really need a new interface, whether you stay with 10 or go to 11. If you have that kind of money to spend, and you want excellent converters, you should just do the trade in of your 003 for an HD Native system. You will get both HD11 and HD10, and the HD interfaces are some of the best conversion in the industry. You will need to make sure your computer has either PCIe slots or Thunderbolt, depending on which version you choose. |

Re: Honestly is PT 11 worth it right now?
I'm very glad I updated, sure I'm missing some plugs I'm using on current project, but I'll finish those in 10, but I've started new projects in11 and I'm totally digging it, can't wait till I can finally just use 11

What's a second hand best bet for an HD Native thunderbolt with a minimal interface to run with it ?? (lowest Ins/Outs)
Best

And FWIW...some respected folks say 96 kHz is the "sweet spot" and while you might notice some positive changes at 88.1/96, you won't really see an improvement beyond that rate. Of course...YMMV...
