Default Firewire Drive and MBOX/G4 Powerbook

I recently purchased a G4 Titanium Powerbook and MBOX system. For storage I purchased the IBM Deskstar Ultra ATA100 drives and put them into Firewire cases from Granite Digital. According to all of the specifications, this system SHOULD work just fine.

However, during my first two attempts to record a full-length concert, the system began making "loud snapping" sounds (and recording them to the file) after about half-an-hour.

Does anyone have any ideas whether this is this a software, hardware, or system setup problem?

Please respond directly (and you also can post your answer on this forum) to: [email protected] because I have another concert this evening at the Aspen Music Festival.

Thank you so very much for your help.

Default Re: Firewire Drive and MBOX/G4 Powerbook

I FOUND THE ANSWER: There are upgrades for BOTH the MBOX Firmware and the DigiDesign USB Driver extension. Both can be found on the Digidesign website for downloading. The USB Driver is version 1.0.1 and the Firmware upgrade is version 1.8

Installation of both solved the problems I was having. The IBM Drives work very well, indeed.
