Hi Georgia

I rented this movie after reading your post and I must agree the movie was not worthy of an Oscar or any other award. my question for you is what did you find so good about the sound? Did I miss something. It didn't stike me as being anything out of the ordinary and if I'm not mistaken there was only the one sound track that was AC3. Really did I miss something I was looking forward to this great soundtrack and was disapointed. Was there something I need to take a second listen to?

Thanks

If I might offer a few suggestions to the stew....

It would be interesting to send a bit of your signal to a Harmonizer or something to chorus the sound a bit, be sure to a little predelay too. Then buss this back to the mix and bring the treated signal in and out. It might be nice to bandpass filter the return as well-

Of course you could use Marti's suggested treatment of the fx signal with BNR or Waves or Cedar for a further "He's swimmin' with the fishes" quality.

cheers!

Hey...

Well. the pool sequence was great. I really listened to the sound design of the city.. I enjoyed it. The music was nice and full not butchered... I enjoyed the twinge of delay/reverb on the voices in the front during the fire drill.. I also enjoyed the temple sequences...
it wasn't a HOLY_****_BATMAN moment with the sound.. It was more like it just flowed throughout really well and sucked me into the atmosphere of the spaces...

IMHO: Sound design done well isn't noticed, it's felt.

cheers

if its any consolation, Georgia, i agree totally. The soundscapes just helped guide you through a really dull movie. Bill Murray was great - very subtle, understated acting. I think most of his bemused looks probably came from his own doubts about such a dull script.

Oh yeah-

I dug Lost in Translation. It was great. Nice work Will! and it is neat to see RB doing such nice work-

I must confess to being a big Kevin Shields and Bill Murray fan though-

there is nothing wrong with slow moving films- they are a nice change of pace.
I really liked the film "In America" too - but I would have liked to hear the dialog... I had to crank it up 12db to be comfortable.

Yeah I know I am in LA - but hey I did move here from SF....
