Default Comparative performance between imac and macbook

I've ot an 2007 iMac 2.33 C2D w/ 4G RAM and a 500GB HD. It covers my performance needs for the most, but i'm wanting to swap to a laptop to make mobile recording a bit less cumbersome.

It seems on Ebay I can sell my iMac for the same price as a 2nd hand newish MacBook (white case version) with specs no less than 2.4 C2D, 4G RAM and 500G HD.

I can't afford to upgrade to a MacBook pro at this stage - just wondering if a MacBook with the afformentioned specs will punch the same as my current iMac - it has got a slightly bigger CPU afterall...

The regular Macbooks don't have firewire ports, which means no way to hook up an external firewire drive (as is required) and no way to hook up any firewire interface.

I've just confirmed I can get a 2.4C2D Macbook with a FW400 port - just not on the newest models

Bump. Does a laptop inherently use more power than a desktop?
