Question Any Problems with mac Book Pro (i7) and 003?

Hi,

I want to buy a MacBookPro with the new i7 chip.
After i read this thread "Pro Tools LE on new MacBook Pro I7"
I learned a lot about USB problems.

Now I'm anxious.

Will the MacBookPro work fine with the Firewire800 connection
to a 003 Factory (which is a Firewire400 connection)?

Any experience?

- frank

All of the recent macs have FW 800 connections, both desktop and laptop.

You can get a 800 to 400 adapter cable for the 003. You'll also need an external FW hard drive to record your audio onto. You'll need to daisy-chain these. You have a couple of options: get a external drive with 2 800 ports and use the second port with the adapter cable for the 003, or get a drive with 2 400 ports and use the adapter cable when first coming into the hard drive.

The 3rd option that works with some hard drives is the "quad interface" drive such as the Mercury Elites by macsales.com. This has 2 800 ports and a 400 port (along with esata and usb). In this case the drive serves as an adapter. You go 800 from the computer into the 800 port on the drive, then from the 400 port on the drive to the 003.

The Lacie D2 Quadras also have 2x800 and 1x400 ports, plus the usual USB and eSata connections.

Works great on my iMac, at least.

it will work just fine...i'm using my new MBP 15" i7 for more than a week now with both PTLE 8.0.3 (Mbox Micro, USB) and PT M-Powered (Lightbridge, firewire), both on the same computer without any glitches whatsoever.
