Default Mbox audio skips

I'm using my Mbox to play audio on a Dell Dimension 8200 Windows XP Pro machine. I've tried Windows Media Player and Winamp, and they both have periodic audio dropouts. This occurs especially when using a web browser, but it will happen every few minutes on its own. I've tried using the DirectSound and waveOut outputs in Winamp, and I've experimented with different buffer sizes, but nothing seems to resolve the problem. How do I fix this?
