Re: "last location unknown" Error
Sorry to have started this thread and then leave it hanging, but I ran into a more serious problem recently. It appears the G4 733MHz (and the 533MHZ I'm told) has problems seeing the expansion chassis sometimes and finally my machine would not boot with the chassis at all (even after swapping with a new chassis). Had to switch back to a G4 400MHz while the problem gets resolved.
Back to the subject at hand... After many more tests with OMFs I seem to be experiencing the same problems as Matt, sometimes it do work sometimes it don't work. Nothing seems to stay consistent. I have sucessfully opened sessions by skipping the ?filename?, but of course you end up with no video. I have also encountered the same 'program error has occurred' after opening a session that appeared to translate perfectly. So that problem exists on more than one computer. For now I'm going to wait for the problem with the expansion chassis to be solved and hope that perhaps a tweak or two to the DigiTranslator will solve the OMF problem. At least digitizing footage straight into ProTools works fine. Matt, I think I will give the import movie thing a try as soon as I get a chance.

Re: "last location unknown" Error
travis,
just so you know you're not alone in the problem area; i went through 2 computers and every possible variation of swapping sound cards, cables, ram, OS, chasis, BOBs - a very pleasant experience (yuck). . . when you digitize video, are you have PT chase someting, or are you going "wild" with viz? when i digitize with online record with video, my tracks (audio & video) run 5 and 1/4 frames AHEAD of where they should be in the timeline. just seeing if anyone else is getting it... anyway, good luck and DO TRY the 'import movie' thing; it works more often the using DT (although not all of the time)... best....

Travis:
Are the OMF's referencing consolidated media by chance? Although not the same problem, we recently encountered the ?filename? snafu with exported audio sequences which were referencing consolidated media in the Film Composer. When the OMF was reexported referencing the original media all was well. Go figure! -Polaris

Re: "last location unknown" Error
Matt,
I digitize video using machine control and a USD. Everything seems to lock up fine and frame accurate (I've checked using video with timecode burn). The OMF video side still seems iffy. I have had mixed luck with import movie, I still sometimes get the ?filename? problem. The OMF problems exist for both consolidated and un-consolidated video. I have swithed from a G4 733MHz back to a G4 400MHz because of expansion chassis problems. the expasion chassis problems have gone away, but the unity/OMF/video problems remain. If I hear or come up with any new info I'll post a new thread. The guys at my local reseller say they are working on the problem.
