Nice one, Janne.

I'm away from the studio at present, but I'll give this a try when I get back. One thing I did notice with my set up is an unworkable latency between the two DAWS. Does your method avoid that? Yes, strange if it only works intermittently - I'd be worried about basing a project on that.

I am testing things on Sonoma Beta, so any kinds of problems are expected. Maybe it is the IAC Driver? Maybe something else.

Here are the changes I made on Logic.

- Settings / MIDI / Sync: MTC Pickup Delay: 3 frames
- Project Settings / Synchronization: Sync Mode: MTC
- Project Settings / Audio: Core Audio: External or Free
- Project Settings / MIDI: Transmit MMC, check

Here are the changes I made on PT:

- Setup / MIDI / MIDI Input Enable: IAC Driver, check
- Setup / MIDI / MIDI Beat Clock: IAC Driver, check
- Setup / MIDI / MIDI Input Filter: Record All
- Setup / MIDI / MIDI Input Filter / Channel Info: uncheck Notes, Pitch Bend, Mono Aftertouch
- Setup / MIDI / MIDI Input Filter / Controllers: uncheck all
- Setup / Peripherals / Synchronization: MTC Reader and Generator: MTC Generator Port: IAC Driver
- Setup / Peripherals / Machine Control: MMC Remote, check, ID zero
- Preferences / MIDI: MIDI Beat Clock, check
- Preferences / MIDI: MIDI Notes and Controllers, uncheck
[/QUOTE]

Tried this a couple of times, Janne (the final two in bold type are under Preferences in 2023.6).

Unfortunately no joy! The first time Pro tools rolled ok, but Logic wouldn't budge. The second time, Logic started rolling from -9:00:00:00. Weird.

Any more luck your end?

I'll do some more faffing around this week.

I gave Ableton Link another chance and now it works. The problem was that Ableton link doesn't transmit song position messages, instead it only transmits tempo and start/stop commands. After I managed to set up Midi Machine Control in both directions, it works as intended. What should be taken into account... if both DAWs should start from measure 3 for example, the timeline must be set to one measure earlier so that both programs have time to synchronize.
MMC settings:
in PT: Master enabled via IAC Driver, ID 0, Slave enabled, ID 126
in Logic: outgoing ID 126, ingoing 0
Of course, the smpte sync settings must be the same in both programs. Strangely, there is an offset on my system, so I had to make a slightly different setting in PT (in Session Setup; External Timecode Offsets, Link off)

Thanks, fella.
All good info. Not sure that would work for me without song position sync for this specific project (though undoubtably in other situations it would be useful).

Recap:
→ Pro Tools (Master): Rest of the band (mainly analog, very little MIDI).
→ Logic (Slave): Tons of vocals tracks.

However, I did find some well constructed and concise videos in Production Expert (old and new):

Syncing (Russ Hughes). It's for PT 11, but the same holds now:
Pro Tools Tutorial: How To Sync Pro Tools 11 With Logic Pro X

Audio (Julian Rodgers): This deals with routing Mainstage to Pro Tools, but the same holds for Logic Pro.
Pro Tools Aux I/O - Everything You Need To Know

Skip down to the video "Using The Pro Tools Audio Bridge To Route Between Apps".

I'll have some downtime to try these out tomorrow.

I had them working together quite well but that was about two years ago and I don't have notes on the specific steps. I doubt that any of the functionality I'd used then has gone away.
