SDD for OS, option 1,option 2, option 3
SDD for sessions/samples option 1, 2, 3
HDD for OS option 1,2,3
HDD for sessions option 1,2,3
CPU option 1,2,3
MOBO option 1,2,3
Graphic card option 1,2,3
DRAM option 1,2,3
etc etc. Does anyone have such a thing? It might help to have such if we don't.
No spread sheet that I know of. Tech is always in flux. Pick your CPU first. If I was shopping today, I'd go 10th/11th/12th gen Intel. AMD & Apple make good chips too. Building today ---> i9-12900K. Just my opinion!

You could use a single drive for all. This: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-2tb-9...quicklink=true
or this: https://www.newegg.com/western-digit...82E16820250160

Thanks for the suggestions. 2TB will not be enough. I have 3TB of samples alone, but if this make/model works for both OS and Sessions etc, then that's great.

Do you have your dongles plugged into the USB hub you mentioned? And I agree the interface I'd plug in directly to the back of the tower.

Yes. iLok + a flashdrive just for Waves. (Dear Waves: please switch to iLok authorizations ...) Make sure to get a powered hub.

I added it to the list.

Okay, a baffling and a quite esoteric problem here, any ideas?

My new PT machine (i9-12900K) has been working wonderfully, but now when I'm trying to setup the latest Dolby Atmos Production Suite 3.7 on my old Mac Pro this happens (happened with DAPS 3.5 as well): Peripherals / Dolby Atmos, Enable - I select the macpro Atmos renderer localhost (which is recognized), PT crashes and restarts. If I try to type the IP address 192.168.1.103, it crashes once I have typed "192.168.1.1" (no enter).

The motherboard is MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4, with Intel I225-V networking. I have tried this with PT versions from 2021.12 back down to 2021.3.1 (as suggested by a Dolby rep). Also, my main install is the unsupported Windows 11 - Avid Customer Support first reply was that I would have to wait for a qualified W11 release, but I installed the supported Windows 10 21H1 - same issue with Pro Tools 2021.12.

I've tried running PT as admin, disabling Windows Firewall and antivirus etc etc. Also the separate LAN card with a Realtek chip didn't help, neither did a direct connection. Frustrantingly, a Boot camped Macbook Pro with Win 10 21H1 and PT 2021.12 works when connected to the same network switch.

Perhaps report this to Microsoft for a fix?

It's actually fixed now. Dolby stated that it's an OpenSSL change in Intel 11th and 12th gen that affected their connection on both ends. They fixed it on their 3.7.1 renderer and have provided DAW makers with the fix. Avid Support promised that it's being incorporated but were able to get me up and running already via a Win Environment Variable that somehow uses the older version. So working on Win11 (and Win 10) now.

Well, I'm zeroing in what I need to get. I stopped by a local business today where I'll have my system built. I can most of what I need from them, but I can go outside for somethings if need be.

Here's what they suggested:

MSI Pro Z690 MB
i9-12900k CPU
CR 16GB DDR5 4800 UDIMM (2 for 32gb ram)
Samsung 980 M.2 SSD 1 TB for OS
Samsung 970 EVO plus M.2 for session and samples (Maybe 2 of them as I have a bunch) Question: Will the M.2 SSDs work okay? OR
Samsung 870 QVO SSD 2TB

1TB Hynix Gold s31 SSD

And of course there's a PSU and liquid cooler and graphics.

Of those SSDs...which will work best? I haven't settled yet on how I want to set them up. My thinking is: 1 SSD for OS, 1 for all my sessions, 1 for samples (of which I have many), 1 for my EW-QL Library.

Will those above work? Which drives are best for which? OR, should I look for something different?

Nothing ordered yet. But, I'm think this weekend I start the ball rolling.

THanks

Looking pretty good. I went with 1TB Samsung 980 Pro (so PCIE 4.0 speed) for the OS and 2TB 970 EVO (PCIe 3.0) for audio/sessions, and a bunch of mechanicals for backups etc.

If I was streaming samples, I might consider the extra price of a PCIe 4.0 drive but for recording and mixing the slower M.2 NVME is more than enough right now (but vastly prefereable over SATA SSD's like the 970 QVO - the cheapest M.2 NVME's aren't even that much more expensive than SATA drives).
