Default Emulating Studio One Bus Solo Behavior

Hey everyone,

So I've been messing around with Studio One Pro 3, and while I definitely still prefer Pro Tools, it has one behavior that I really wish I could get in Pro Tools.

If I have a bus or FX send in Studio One, even ones being fed by post fader sends, if I solo the bus, I'm able to hear the sound of say, just that reverb, as it's not muting what's being sent. Sometimes being able to hear the sound of just the drum crush bus or a reverb return to see what it's adding.

Just wondering what your workflow for this was, and if there's a way to have pro tools work in a similar fashion.

Thank So!

Is that seriously all I have to do? Man if that does it I'm going to both feel like an idiot and owe you a beer.

HDX or HD Native hardware is required, isn't it ? (At least for PT 11 HD.)

I've got 11HD and 12.4 vanilla. Will try it in both.

Thanks!

Thanks ! A plus point for PT 12. Not even HD required. (I might consider upgrading from 11, if the price drops ... .)

It's official, I owe Drew a beer. Just tried it in 12.4 vanilla and as soon as I assigned an output path for AFL, it works exactly as I wanted it to, I can solo my returns and hear just the sound of the send.

When I first messed with Studio One, I had the "I think this DAW sounds better" experience, which from null tests and common sense we know shouldn't be true. And I really think that it was just this helping my workflow that allowed me to get better mixes more quickly than I was used to in Pro Tools, and it was the one thing I missed when I used PT. I knew there had to be a way to do it, but I had asked before and not gotten an answer. So thank you so much, I feel dumb for not having found it on my own but whatever, better mixing in Pro Tools here I come!

and 2 more options; use PRE-fade sends(or change them temporarily for this purpose), or do what I do. Because any time I solo anything, it will affect headphone mixes(assuming I have musicians recording), I never actually SOLO. Instead, in all my session and track templates, in the last send slot, I add a PRE-fade aux send, set to -0 and muted. Any time I want to hear something, I switch my monitor/source box(Presonus central station) to an ALT set of outputs from my interface, which are fed by the sends I described. I Ctrl-click on a send and can hear anything, in any combination, without affecting headphone mixes(or anything else)
