1. For Pro Tools, try uninstalling those extra NVIDEA drivers and just use the base driver.
2. CCleaner reg clean & regular clean
3. AVID recommend Optimizations. Until the problem is located and fixed, do ALL of them, even the ones that seem like an unnecessary pain in the ass.

5. Debloat
6. Go through Windows Settings and basically turn all that stuff off
7. Affinity switch

For LatencyMon, look under drivers and processes to see which ones have highest latency time and DPC values.
Google those names to see what might be related to them.

Hope that helps!

Does your son's "usual" network environment include a NAS or network-mounted storage drive?

I've noticed that my Windows Pro Tools rig will freeze up for about 5-10 seconds every 90 seconds or so when my NAS is not turned on. It's also occurring at regular, predictable intervals, although I have not timed it with a stopwatch or anything. This freeze is also unrelated to system load - I've had it freeze during startup, shutdown, and in everything from a simple single-track recording session, to a full Atmos feature film edit session. The only thing that stops these freezes is having the NAS drive turned on and accessible by Windows.

When the freezes occur, Windows explorer has the drive listed, but disconnected. My theory is that the lock-up is Pro Tools searching for that drive to see if it's been connected yet.

The two solutions I've found is to either turn my NAS on, or to unmap the network drive so that it no longer appears in Explorer. This may not be the same issue you're having, but it seems to me that the combination of Pro Tools, Windows, and network drives can lead to some funky behaviour.
