can i install ptle 6.1 on two machines or just one
I am getting ready to go to osx. I have two computers and would like to put ptle 6.1 on the machine that already has osx so i will have a system in place to use while i make the more involved switch to osx, pt 6.1 and plugs on my main machine. can i install pt 6.1 upgrade on more than one machine?
Anybody know whether i can install the osx version of reason on more than one machine? cheers, joseph

You can install on as many computers as you want, but without the hardware attached Protools of any version (Except PTFree) will not launch.

Re: can i install ptle 6.1 on two machines or just one
IIRC, the Protools licence specifically says that you can't install it on multiple machines.
However, the legality of EULA (end user licence agreements) is being heavily argued amongst IT lawyers. There is a push to create most of the standard licence agreements in legislation. In Australia, that's the case. We have a legal right to make backups of software, to decompile it for bug testing, etc. etc. And any software licence which contradicts these legal rights is void persuant to those particular rights.Whether a secondary install is considered a 'backup' has yet to be tested. Probably not, but it'd be nice if it were With the increase in users having laptops and desktops, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a push for 'secondary' installs of a single licence. MS Office, for all its evilness, allows users to have a copy on a laptop and a desktop - they just can't be run simulataneously. As for ProTools... while you legally can't have two installs, you can do it technically. |

Re: can i install ptle 6.1 on two machines or just one
I guess I'm a bit confused. To be sure, with 5.1 you have to have an interface. However...
My understanding was that with the i-lock, you can install PT on as many machines as you want, but it will only work with the i-lock connected to the USB port. Of course, you'd still have to have an interface (M-box, 001 or 002), but at least the software itself could be installed on multiple machines. It would be nice to be able to take a Pro Tools "system" around with you by simply taking the interface and hooking it up to whatever computer had the software installed. Can anybody clear this up? I would really like to know since I'll probably be getting the 002R in the next 6 months. |

You can do exactly that. The iLok does nothing for PT, it's only for plugins. The PT software can be installed on any machine, it just won't run unless digi hardware is connected (the interface is just a big dongle). |
