Default Oktava Mics?

Hi,

just wondered if anybody uses Oktava mics.
Especially the MC012.
I checked the recently ongoing threads about
mics, but didn´t find anything about the Oktava.
They are Russian microphones and I heard they suposed to be pretty good for the price.

Thanks for any replys,

Tjkili

they are pretty good for the price, me thinks, but their quality is fairly inconsistent. if you buy one (or some) check out as many as you can and take the one that you think sounds best.

other alternative could be Rode?

I have one wide diaphram and two of the small. Never had any complaints.

Hi,
As good Americans we must support the open market economy of Russia, right?

I was looking at these the other day. They have some great reviews, for the price, but the quality of their construction is a bit off. The switch was all crooked. Other things that were a bit strange too.

I wouldn't buy these remotely. Make sure you want the one you're taking home...

Take care,
Mark

I bought the 219 before I could afford a better condenser for vocals (Audix CX111). It is an ok mic, but not one that I would use on a regular basis.

The 012 is a good small diaphram mic and I use it in a stereo configuration, one positioned at the 12th fret and one toward the end of the guitar and pointed at the sound hole. I am very happy with the sound for both steel string and nylon string acoustic guitar. As mentioned earlier, check them out carefully before you take them home. If you are looking for a mathed pair do a search on the internet an you will find a site that sells only the best quality Oktavas imported to the States...(if you are in the States).
